EU ICT Project FP6-034472
The overall objective of the EU funded "Water Risk Management in Europe - WARMER" project is to create an integrated real-time system for risk management used for water quality monitoring by integrating various technologies in the area of semiconductors, analytical chemistry, physics of liquids, micro-mechanical fluidic systems, satellite remote sensing and ICT technologies.
The environmental information from the aquatic monitoring sensors have in WARMER been integrated into one smart probe - connecting information from the different probes within an information network - and designed in a user-friendly system to provide easy access to the monitoring results. Satellite remote sensing, which is the basis for GMES services, are used as part of the integrated environmental data where also the in situ sensor network are operated in aquatic environments.
A "production line" for daily acquisition and generation of medium resolution satellite images (MERIS FR- Medium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer - full Resolution) have been developed and implemented for WARMER (D11). Also other satellite Earth Observation (EO) data will be evaluated use within the WARMER system. The University of Aberdeen has developed the ADDP (Aberdeen DISPRO DB Proxy) for acquiring and communicating the in situ data from multiple external databases to an integrated information system. These information sources are integrated in the WARMER monitoring and management system, which is an OGC (Open Geospatial Consortium) compliant Web Map Service (WMS) system, located at http://warmer.nersc.no/index.xml.
The objective of this web-based monitoring and management system is to demonstrate the integration and fusion of medium to high-resolution ocean colour satellite remote sensing data with in situ measurements from the buoy monitoring system developed and deployed in WARMER. The basis for this system is the DISPRO system, initially developed in the DISMAR (Data Integration System for Marine Pollution and Water Quality) and the on-going InterRisk (Interoperable GMES Services for Environmental Risk Management in Marine and Coastal Areas of Europe) projects. This system has in WARMER been expanded to accommodate the WARMER specific satellite EO products and to integrate the WARMER environmental data from the buoy monitoring system.
Under Regional Demonstrations you find the web-based WARMER monitoring and management system set up for the WARMER demonstration areas:
